| The Western Australian Business and the Environment Manual
Regulation & Assistance
Various government authorities play an important role in ensuring the effective environmental management of business. These regulatory authorities are responsible for the enforcement of mandatory legislative requirements.
This section of the Business and the Environment Manual provides more detail on the regulatory authorities which enforce the environmental obligations described in Managing your impacts. It is designed to complement self regulation, a voluntary business initiative which was discussed in the chapter Environmental management and explored further in Managing your impacts. By complying with the requirements of the various regulatory authorities and the legislation which they administer, businesses can be assured that they have met the minimum required by law and have taken the first step toward effective environmental management.
