The Centre provides research support to the Western Australian Waste Management Association across a number of areas including:
- Alternative waste technologies
- Extended producer responsibility (ie Container deposit scheme)
- Reviewing Australian and International Waste management practices
- Assessment of new and emerging waste conversion systems utilized internationally for processing municipal solid waste (MSW) focusing on innovative gasification and pyrolysis technology
- Assessment of new and emerging anaerobic digestion technologies for processing the organic fraction of MSW
- Assessment of barriers to the implementation of alternative waste management systems in Western Australia
- The use of bio-algae to remediate landfill leachate in Western Australia
